HOCHATOWN ZIP CODE PROJECT

U. S. Post Office, Hochatown Okla painted oil on board by Irene Mulkey. 1933

History of Hochatown Post Office
The USPS has served the Hochatown community from as early as the 1830s and established a permanent post office in September 1894. The Hochatown post office was closed in the 1960s by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers when they impounded the waters of the Mountain Fork River to create the Broken Bow Reservoir.
We need your help reclaiming the Hochatown ZIP Code
1. Please contact both of your U.S. Senators and ask them to support ZIP CODE BILLS which direct the United States Postal Service (USPS) to establish new ZIP Codes for certain communities, and for other purposes.
2. Contact the Senators that serve on The Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. All of the zip code bills have been assigned to this committee.
3. Contact all 100 U.S. Senators and ask them to support the zip code bills.
4. Share this information with your family, friends, and anyone interested in the Hochatown zip code.

When should I contact my Senators?
The bills are currently assigned to The Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. The committee chair could place the bills on the agenda at any time, or the bills could languish and die in committee.
What should I say? I’ve never contacted my U. S. Senator before.
Feel free to use the suggested language below and edit it to make it your own.
Dear (U. S. Senator’s name),
Please support the zip code bills: S.B 3175, S.B. 3176, S.B. 2961, S.B. 1455, H.R. 3095, and H.R. 672.
I am asking for your support because Hochatown deserves their own zip code for a number of reasons. This place name is important to our residents. A zip code associated with the town name builds a unique identity and is an integral part of our tourism economy where approximately three million visitors vacation each year.
Zip codes are used for many purposes beyond the original purpose of efficient mail distribution.
Hochatown’s zip code will help us to identify data trends and socio-economic indicators. A zip code will help us to collect taxes due the municipality from online sales (Amazon, Airbnb, etc.). Many grants and other services are based on zip code applications.
When a resident or tourist needs 911, a Hochatown zip code will help identify the correct location where emergency services are needed. This is for the safety and well-being of everyone.
A zip code will help to serve all of these needs and I respectfully ask that you support these bills.
Sincerely yours,
